Hod (giving space) is … a moment of thanks upon awakening. There is a Jewish custom and prayer called the ‘Modeh Ani’ that is said upon awakening that thanks Hashem (Gd) for having returned the soul into one’s body. When one sleeps, a part of the soul leaves the body and goes into the spiritual celestial realms. The fact that one wakes up means that their soul has been fully restored in their body which means that their divine mission on this earth is still ongoing. The prayer is an offering of gratitude, an acknowledgement that in spite of the difficulties of being a soul in a body on this intense physical planet, Gd entrusts us to do the best we can. May we all recognize that we are one with the Creator, surrounded by angels to help guide us and that we are never alone.
‘Modeh Ani’ – “I offer thanks to You, living and eternal King, for you have mercifully restored my soul within me; Your faithfulness is great.”
