Blessings are … saving lives. I read a ‘Jewish Press’ story over Shabbos about Denmark’s saving of Jews during the Nazi occupation. When the Denmark people —intellectuals, priests, fishermen, doctors, policemen, government officials — got word on the day before Rosh Hoshana, 1943 of the imminent round up of Jews, they tracked them down and found ways to hide them. On October 1, 1943 when the Nazis were hunting for Jews, many were already in hiding in fishing villages. The Jews were ferried over into Sweden and 430 survived. The survival rates of the Denmark Jews was larger than any other country during the war because of the brave and kind acts of the Danes and Swedes.
