Miracles.
Miracles are … how Israel survived the Gulf War of 1991 in which Iraq attacked with 39 scud missiles. I was in Crown Heights, Brooklyn at the time and the Rebbe prophesized that Israel would be safe. He said that no chemical warfare would be used, that people could travel there safely and that there would be Wonders. And there were. No deaths resulted from the each of the scuds loaded with 600 pounds of explosives, many of which landed in heavily populated areas. Buildings collapsed and yet people crawled out of the rubble unharmed. One survivor said “G-d threw down mattresses to cushion our falls, pushed walls out of our way.” Saddam Hussein believed himself to be the reincarnation of Nebuchadnezzar and wanted Jerusalem. Instead, the cruel despot was humbled. The Rebbe also prophesized that the war would end by the Jewish holiday of Purim and it did. The ancient Jewish Midrash, called the Yalkut Shemoni, told of this time of miracles and it was incredible to live through it with open eyes.
