Compassion is … getting into your body to heal. When any of us has experienced trauma, the safest place to be has been to leave our bodies—to dissociate. The situation or person that is causing the trauma has ‘stolen’ our bodies from us, especially if it has been a continual, systematic trauma. When we begin to heal, the kindest thing that we can do is to get back into our body with our awareness—to meet and greet it. Each time one notices and feels the sensations within their body, they are reclaiming their parts, reclaiming their body and coming home.
