Healing is from an Infinite Source
Healing is … from an Infinite source. The strength that we have to heal comes from our will and from above. That’s why prayer, visualization (I look at as a kind of prayer), giving charity in honor of healing, and the act of surrendering to an Infinite source has power. We are not in this alone. This Holocaust story made me think of this for it is not from our strength alone that healing and life happens.
Reb Gedaliah Eisner (Reb Good’l) was a righteous rabbi who spent four years under brutal and inhumane conditions in concentration camps. When the allies got close to the one he was in, the Nazis forced all of the ‘human skeletons’ to another place. “They did not march them. They ran them. Those who stumbled or faltered were shot. Reb Good’l was emaciated and he recalled his pain as he ran. ‘My feet could not carry me; I was ready to lie down and accept my fate: a bullet to the head with the words of Shema on my lips. But from somewhere a voice called out to me, ‘Loif Good’l! Loif!—Run, Gedaliah, run!’ And somehow I ran. And from somewhere came the strength.'” (Ami magazine 362)
