Freedom to See Someone’s Light
Freedom is … looking at someone with a good eye – taking in all that you know about them and don’t know about them and seeing their light. In Judaism, the right side is ‘kindness’ and it is with that side and eye that we are taught to draw close. The left side is ‘strength’ (in kabbalah – ‘gevorah’) and it is with this side that we discern and set boundaries. The goal is ‘tiferes’ = harmony. This to me is freedom because I’m not ignoring their humanness which may show up as funky to me yet I’m also choosing to see their light too.
